Mbofholowo holds a Bachelor of Commerce (ECONOMICS) from the University of Pretoria and is currently doing his MSc (Economic Management and Policy) at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland specialising in Industrialisation, Trade and Economic Policy (ITEP). He started his career in 2006 at The Office of The President - Republic of South Africa ("The Presidency") as a Trainee Policy Analyst within the Policy Co-ordination and Advisory Service (PCAS) or "Policy Unit" as member of the team responsible for the Economic Sector. His most recent research works have focused on policy development in the empowerment, and energy areas. His research interests are in the developmental state, industrial development, energy and empowerment.
He then joined (non-profit) Trade and Industry Policy Strategies (TIPS) in 2007 as a Researcher focusing on regional integration, international trade research and industrial policy and development. He is currently working as an Assistant Programme Manager since 2011, focusing on Industrial Policy Development; Fundraising, Financial Management and Reporting; Project Planning and Management; and High-level Stakeholder Engagement. Mbofholowo has project managed, authored and contributed to numerous research papers and projects on economic development and industrialisation issues.
