| The dti has announced the finalists for the inaugural dti Business Awards, aimed at recognising excellence across a range of economic sectors.
The Awards are a platform to celebrate the achievements of South African companies in the domestic and international arena. The winners will be announced at a gala event this evening (4 December 2002).
The dti Business Awards, the successor to the President’s Award for Export Achievement, have attracted more than 2 000 entries across a range of large and small enterprises throughout South Africa.
Excellence will be recognised across the categories encompassing manufacturing, supply chain management, job creation and retention, export achievement, corporate governance, partnership and collaboration, and innovative enterprise financing.
Cape-based Tellumat and Gauteng-based Bumbo have emerged as front runners in the awards, each attracting nominations in three distinct categories. Bumbo, a manufacturer of moulded baby seats, has been nominated for awards in the Manufacturing Excellence Category in the fields of Small / Micro business, BEE and women-owned business. Telecommunications company Tellumat has been nominated in the large / medium business classification for manufacturing and export achievement, as well as for BEE in export achievement.
Tellumat’s competition in the large / medium business category is KwaZulu-Natal-based Shurlok International, a supplier of automotive components to the auto industry, also a finalist in the non-metropolitan section of the awards.
