Mr Garth Coppin has been a Techical Partner with Ernst & Young and one of its predecessor firms in Johannesburg since 1988 and was Partner-in-charge
of the South African Financial Reporting Group of Ernst & Young from 2000 until early 2013
Mr Coppin joined a predecessor firm of Ernst & Young in 1978 after doing his articles with Sprigg Abbott and Company in Cape Town.
Mr Coppin has been involved in the accountancy profession's standard-setting process for over twenty years.
He served on the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board and its predecessors from 1991 to 2006 and was on the South African Institute
of Chartered Accountant's Accounting Practices Committee from 2001 to 2012. He was a member of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) GAAP Monitoring Panel
(now known as the Financial Reporting Investigations Panel) from its creation in 2002 until 2008 and is recognised by the JSE as an accredited IFRS advisor.
He is also a member of the South African Integrated Reporting Committee. Mr Coppin oversaw the firm's prestigious annual reporting awards
(Excellence in Financial/Corporate/Integrated Reporting) from 2002 to 2012.
Mr Coppin has presented on accounting to a wide variety of audiences locally and globally, has had a number of
articles published and has been quoted in the press many times over the years on accounting issues.
