the dti, National Liquor Authority will host a one-day conference on 08 March 2012 in Gauteng Province.
The conference will be used as a platform to discuss the role and future direction with regards to the National
Liquor Policy and the impact thereof on the South African economy. The conference will feature key note address and
presentations from experts in the field. The Deputy Minister, Elizabeth Thabethe will lead the reception and opening
activities of the conference.
Trade and Industry Minister Gazettes SEZ Bill and Policy
Members of the public have 60 days to comment on the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Bill that has been gazetted (23 January 2012) by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies. The gazetting
of the Bill and Policy is the culmination of work done to broaden the scope and composition of dedicated industrial areas and to support industrial decentralization. Public comments can be
sent to sezbill@thedti.gov.za.
The period for public comment closes on 22 March 2012.

List of Employment Creation Fund Applications received for Round 3
The Economic Research and Policy Coordination within the office of the Director General is responsible for the administration of the Employment Creation Fund.
The fund was established to finance the high risks initiative that need to be piloted to prove the viability of concept to create sustainable jobs.
The projects must be aligned to government's economic programme. The fund is accessible to government departments and other state entities. Round 3 funding window was officially opened
on the 17th of May 2011 to the 30th of June 2011.

Minister Davies Gazettes the Draft Chartered Accountancy Charter as a Sector Code
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Rob Davies has gazetted the Draft Chartered Accountancy (CA) Charter as a Sector Code in terms of section 9 (1) of the Broad-Based
Black Economic Empowerment Act (B-BBEE Act 53 of 2003). The gazetting of the CA Charter as a Sector Code became legally binding to entities in the CA sector from 10 May 2011.
One of the key highlights of the sector code is the black ownership target of 32.5% to be achieved by the sector by 2016. In addition, the main focus of the sector shall be on
skills development to increase the number of black people, particularly black women entering the profession, to reflect the country's demographic population.

Speaking at the International Handicrafts exhibition in Cameroon, Yaounde, Deputy Minister Thabethe says the Cameroonian economy presents enormous trade and investment opportunities for South African business, and that is why South Africa identified this country as a strategic partner.
Thabethe says South Africa and Cameroon have a number of agreements that are meant to facilitate better economic cooperation and enhance market access.
