The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) and the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission(CIPC) have noted with great concern allegations of governance failures and financial irregularities at South African retailer Steinhoff which led to the resignation of its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Markus Jooste. the dti and CIPC will be launching an investigation into the allegations in so far as they relate to non-compliance with the Companies Act and Regulations.  the dti will further suggest that the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA) also consider the circumstance with regard to the role of Auditors in this instance.

South Africa to Participate at WTO 11th Ministerial Conference
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies and the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Senzeni Zokwana, together with the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Bulelani Magwanishe, have arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina for the 11th World Trade Organisation (WTO) Ministerial Conference (MC11) to be held, 10-13 December 2017.  The Ministerial Conference is the highest decision making body in the WTO and will be attended by delegates of the 164 countries which are members of the WTO.

Minister Davies Gazettes the Amended Agri-Bee Sector Code in Terms of Section 9(1) of the Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment Amendment (B-BBEE) Act
The Minister of Trade and Industry Dr Rob Davies has gazetted the Amended AgriBEE Sector Code for implementation by entities in both public and private sector. Minister Rob Davies says that the sector code will serve as guidelines for transformation of the agricultural sector. It replaces the old AgriBEE Sector Code which was gazetted in December 2012.?  The Minister says that agriculture is bedrock of our economy and a very important contributor to its development. ?This is evident by the latest 2017 thrird quarter Statistics on Gross Domestic Product which shows that agriculture production has risen by 44.2% and was the main driver of the  2% GDP growth of the third quarter? states Davies.

Minister Davies Concludes AU Ministers of Trade Meeting in Niger
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies has arrived back in the country, from Niamey, Niger where he attended the 4th African Union (AU) Ministers of Trade Meeting.  The AU Ministers of Trade was officially opened by H.E. Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger and Champion of the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA).

the dti Helps Company Create Jobs in Limpopo
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Bulelani Magwanishe says the grant of almost R50 million from the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) has contributed to the creation of 300 permanent and 500 contract jobs in Modjadjiskloof, Limpopo, by   a food manufacturing company, Eastern Trading, which trades as Dursot All Joy.  Magwanishe was speaking during the launch the company firm?s expansion project in Modjadjiskloof today.
