Investigate contraventions of Import and Export control act

Manufacturers, importers or any other interested party of whom the sustainable economic business activities are in jeopardy due to the illegal importation/proposed exportation of goods, the importation/exportation of which are subject to the provisions of section 2 of the Import and Export Control Act, may lodge a formal complaint with the Directorate: Import and Export Control.

The purpose of the offering is to investigate contraventions of the Act, seize illegally imported goods, goods destined for export, and prosecute transgressors.

The process involves the following steps:

  • Receive complaint
  • Visit premises and inspect goods and documentation
  • Obtain other documentation relevant to the matter
  • Adjudicate to ensure that a contravention occurred
  • Seize goods and remove or leave on premises
  • Prepare statement and submit to SAPS
  • Discuss stakeholder buy-in
  • Testify in court
  • Oppose application for the release of seized goods

    The turnaround time for this offering is 6 to 12 months.
